Product Accountant: Financial Control & Reporting Division

Reporting to the Team Leader

Purpose of the job

The purpose of this role is to support the Financial Control & Reporting function within Product Finance, assisting with the delivery of specialized Transfer Agency administration services across a diverse range of investment products, including Unit Trusts, Hedge Funds, Pooled Portfolios, Retirement, Life, and LISP products.

This role is responsible for the execution of the day-to-day operational delivery of the function, ensuring the timely and accurate completion of key financial outputs, including month-end reporting packs, Management Accounts, regulatory reporting, and adherence to established financial controls and governance standards.

The incumbent will assist in maintaining effective operational processes and controls, while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, operational projects, new client take-ons, system enhancements, and user acceptance testing (UAT) activities to support operational efficiency and service delivery.

Main duties & responsibilities

Operational Support & Team Coordination

  • Prepare and maintain the day-to-day delivery of Financial Control & Reporting activities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, compliance, and adherence to established controls, regulatory, tax, and audit requirements.

  • Apply a hands-on approach by actively participating in daily operational activities, including reconciliations, reporting, statutory submissions, investigation and resolution of discrepancies, and operational query resolution.

  • The preparation and review of month-end reporting packs, management accounts, Trustee reports, and annual financial statements (via CaseWare).

  • Maintaining effective controls, audit preparation, operational risk management, and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Participate in operational projects, new client take-ons, system enhancements, process improvement initiatives, and user acceptance testing (UAT) to support operational efficiency, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

  • Contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, accuracy, productivity, and service delivery standards.

Stakeholder Engagement & Client Support

  • Act as a key point of contact for stakeholder engagement relating to Financial Control & Reporting, Cash Management & Reconciliations, Taxation & Investment Administration, and operational queries.

  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with clients, auditors, Trustees, and internal stakeholders to support communication, collaboration, and service delivery.

  • Respond to queries in a professional, timely, and solution-oriented manner, ensuring efficient resolution and consistent stakeholder support.

  • Presenting financial and operational information clearly and professionally to relevant internal and external stakeholders

Ideal experience

  • 3–4 years’ accounting experience, with exposure to financial reporting, reconciliations, month-end processes, and audit requirements.

  • Experience within Transfer Agency services would be advantageous, with exposure to investment products including Retirement, Life, LISP, Unit Trusts, Hedge Funds, and Pooled Portfolios beneficial.

  • Experience in financial reporting, including the preparation and review of financial statements, with sound CaseWare knowledge and audit exposure.

  • Sound knowledge of investment products, including Retirement, Life, LISP, Unit Trusts, Hedge Funds and Pooled Portfolios, and their associated accounting and month-end reporting requirements.

  • Exposure to operational projects, process improvements, system enhancements, new client take-on, and user acceptance testing (UAT) would be advantageous.

Software and systems knowledge

  • CaseWare

  • Pastel

  • Flexcube experience would be advantageous

  • Digiata modules and online banking platforms

  • SARS applications and financial processing systems

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, with advanced Excel skills essential and PowerPoint proficiency advantageous

Ideal qualifications:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification, such as a bachelor’s degree or postgraduate qualification in accounting or a related field.

  • A technically strong individual with the ability to execute on operational delivery and participate effectively in projects, process improvements, client take-ons, and testing initiatives.
